Karma Is A Bitch
Eden wanted to see how the Universe paid me back for my random act of kindness last week. Well, let's see....
So far my camera has given up the ghost, requiring a $300 replacement, which probably won't happen until after I receive a tax refund cheque that is likely going to be much smaller than I'm used to.
My DVD player is on strike. At first I thought it was just protesting the 473rd viewing of the Leapfrog Letter Factory, but when it wouldn't play Firefly either, I knew something was up. No idea what; I'm still waiting for it to bring a list of demands to the bargaining table.
My daycare bill this period is 2/3 of my take home pay. And my next paycheque will only be for 2 days. Nevertheless, I've been cut off of government assistance because I make too much money now. I've not received actual money from the government for months, but it was nice to know the safety net was there (along with the dental and drug benefits) if I needed it.
My glasses, which I love, are broken, and the manufacturer doesn't make them anymore. So, even if I could afford to replace them, I can't replace them.
And I desperately need a haircut. Which I also can't afford right now. So I'm stuck with mom hair. Too long bangs held back by a hairband, bottom flipping in opposite directions mom hair.
Fabulous. I think I want my $10 back.

Ugh! What a pain. We're suffering the slow death of our tv, and while I really don't want to spend the money to buy a new one right now, I can envision life without it. We've got the combo DVD/VCR, and the VCR hasn't worked for over a year, thanks to some 'investigating' the Potato once did. It's a pain, not being able to play the videos, but the idea of going totally tv-free? Too scary for words.
Ouch, not a fun week. The benefits of the kindness will certainly come next week then!
So sorry. Sounds like a pretty crappy week for you. I hope it gets better. :)
There are some days even my lucky underpants can't help. Hope by the weekend the clouds lift. And I hear ya on the babysitter bill...ouch!
Awww, hang in there Kim! It's not until we've gone over the bumps in the road that we realize that they were there because we were taking the scenic route. I know that you'll get you're $10 back tenfold. Karma takes longer than we think...and discouragement is usually a pain in the meantime :D
Grammar correction: "I know that you'll get YOUR $10 back tenfold." I was a writer once...
I'd love to say nice gushy things like "I know its going to get better" but Im not that kind of person. What I will say is "I wish I was there to take you out for a solo mum's moment, coffee and movie and lots of man watching in the mall" my shout. Oh and to bring the cleaner disc for your DVD player, and give you the haircut that you need but can't afford. Its hard work some days but then you have a "holy cow" fantastic week and it even's out eventually, maybe you need to find a new "best mom friend" to help you string the good ones together! I have noticed that you don't seem to have filled the void left by your best friend moving, or at least you haven't told us. big hugs from the 3 mooseketeers in NZ
No Kate, I've not filled the void. Deepened it, in fact, when the third woman in our little friendship triangle also moved out there. Right now my friendtime is 3 hours behind and conducted on MSN.
If you were here, instead of all the way around the other side of the world, you'd definitely be on my list of moms to stalk until you liked me, though ;)
Aw man, just wander over to Michigan and I'll give you a haircut. Cos, you know, that'd be so much cheaper ;-} Hope your luck turns around!
Sometimes the bitch makes you pay up front. ;)
