Here, Kitty Kitty
The furball has come out from under the bed. She's not quite ready to join the family yet, but she's making it known that she will not be ignored, either. She's more than happy to hide, tantilizingly out of reach, so long as she's got an audience. But, should we have the audacity to get on with our lives, she sudden appears, with a mew that is an endearing combination of indignant, piteous, and imperious, to put us in our places.
She's still without a name; it appears I used up all my whimsy and creativity on the less cool pet, which, come to think of it, seems only fair. The Ladies' rather uninspired suggestions of "Blackie" and "Fluffy" were summarily rejected, and I was unable to convince them that "Sheba" or "Pagan" would be the perfect name for our little black ball of fluff. They were equally unimpressed with my fallback suggestion of "'George." At one point, Diva Girl suggested that we rename Princess Sparklefairy and bestow her moniker on the cat. I feel dirty to say that I considered it, but ultimately decided that the only thing the poor fish has going for it in the face of such undeniable cutelness is its cool name.
Right now we're leaning towards "Nyx," but much though I love the name, I'm not sure if I'm committed yet. But if we don't come up with something soon, the poor thing is going to think "here, kitty kitty!" is actually her name. Who knew naming a pet would be so hard? I sure didn't have this much trouble with The Ladies' names!
Comments
Our last few cats were named "musically"
We had Xenakis, Edgar (Varese) and Leroy Brown (baddest cat in the whole damn town)
Fluffalorium? Raven? SadGothKitty?
Emily the Strange?
All I know is that Vivian wants a black kitty for her next birthday, so we have to start with the names now.
We had a black cat in college, Lylo. Other pets I see regularly: Jackie, Oliver, Merlin, Gypsy, Reba, Midnight, Bella.
we have orange, angel, mundi & zippy! and the rabbits, are you ready? flip-flop, arfur(r for rabbit)peaches, layla, phoebe, sadie, tinky, fuzzle, sammy & pebbles, oh and the chinchilli is called chilli or crystal depending who is talking to her, and I dont remember the fish, oscar and ernie I think...!
i think 'emily (the strange' is quite cool! i named my first cat -all black too - damian! only learnt a couple of months later that he was a she!! well, the name stayed but as life would have it, she's a stereotypical scaredy cat and with a name like that! she almost 3 now and with the second cat, also female - a b&w tuxedo cat called spooky - the love of my life!
How about "Seven" a la Seinfeld?
My favorite cat was named Hank. At one point, my brother and I had cats named This and That, when we were in college.
Name them by the numbers -- either "One" since this is cat #1, or "Three" since this is technically pet #3. Simple. And there will be more... gauranteed.
My black femal cat is called "Kitty George" and does not answer to "Kitty" or "George"...only "Kitty George". After a few Margaritas kitty names come pretty easy!!!!
I've gotta confess that our black cat's name is Shadow, yes, I know, so original, lol. Hmm, Soot, Coal or Ebony?
ohhh the cats i've had... names? never a problem: Dutchess Mathilda (a white cat), Swarte (which is a misspelling of the dutch word for black - you guess the color of the fur), Zusje (little sister), Vrijdag (Friday), and a gay cat (i'm not kidding) with the name Jij Ook (You Too). Good luck :)
Hey...my cat's named Gypsy! (with Smacky being her second name). With 4 of us when we were younger, none of us could agree on a name for our dog, whose name became "Punky (like Brewster) Christina (the girl my brother had a crush on) Crackers (my favorite food when I was 3)". We called her Punky since my sister is usually the dominant one anyway.
Bagherra (from the Jungle Book)
Miskin ( from Miss Kitty mispronounced)
Bella
Molly
When ourchocolate lab, Maggie, was given to us, we did not know that she was pregnant. 8 weeks later when she had 10 (yes, dammint, 10!) black puppies, the Pops came up with several interesting names. I don't remember them all, but they included 'Will Smith" (we had just seen Men In Black), "Darth Vadar", "Coca Cola", "Black Beauty", "Kitten"(mewed instead of barking), "Pup In Boots" (had white paws), "Midnight", "Seis" (had 6 toes...weird!), and a couple of others.
